Education
Born in San Francisco, California on November 6, 1946, William Flahavan attended Saint Mary's College receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics in 1968. Mr. Flahavan received his Juris Doctor Degree from Hastings College of Law in 1971 where he was the Note and Comment Editor for the Hastings Law Journal, a member of the Thurston Honor Society and graduated Order of the Coif. Mr. Flahavan was admitted to the Bar of the State of California in January, 1972.
Experience
Mr. Flahavan was Managing Partner of the firm of Jones & Wilson from 1978 through 1984 and thereafter was Managing and Senior Partner of Flahavan, Hudson A Francis from its inception in 1984. Mr. Flahavan's practice specializes in Professional Malpractice and Personal Injury litigation. Mr. Flahavan has extensive mediation, arbitration and trial experience in his area of specialization. Mr. Flahavan continues to be active in this civil litigation practice and from 1994 - 2005 has been a Professor of Civil Procedure and Legal Malpractice at the Ventura & Santa Barbara College of Law.
Publications
Mr. Flahavan continues to be the lead author of the "Personal Injury Practice Guide" which has been published by the Rutter Group from 1984 to the present. He has also authored numerous other educational works including "Attorney Malpractice: Risks and Solutions," "Smarter Settlements in L.A. Superior Court," and "120 Days to Go: Preparing for Trial in Superior Court".
Bar Activities
Mr. Flahavan has lectured extensively at the request of The Rutter Group, the Continuing Education of the Bar, the California Trial Lawyers Association, Los Angeles Trial Lawyers Association, the Southern California Defense Counsel, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the San Francisco Bar Association, the San Diego County Bar Association, the Orange County Bar Association and Lawyers Mutual Insurance Co. on virtually all facets of civil litigation. Mr. Flahavan is a Master of the Bench in good standing of the American Inns of Court.
